Somewhere in the scroll of other people’s lives, it is easy to start believing you are late.
Someone your age just bought a house. Someone else got engaged. Another person launched their third startup. And there you are, still figuring out your Tuesday.
I want to say something gently, especially if you can’t stop comparing yourself: your pace is not a problem.
Comparison only shows the highlights
We compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s final cut. Nobody posts the loan rejections, the 2 am doubts or the plans that quietly fell apart. You are measuring your full story against someone’s trailer.
Every life runs on a different clock
Some people find their career at 22 and their peace at 40. Others find peace first and career later. Neither is wrong. Life is not a race with a single finish line. It is a set of different journeys that happen to share the same road for a while.
Slow is not the same as stuck
Growing slowly still means growing. A plant does not apologise for taking a season to bloom.
What helps me when I feel behind
Compare yourself only to who you were a year ago. That’s the only fair comparison you have.
Mute what makes you feel small. You are allowed to curate your feed for your peace.
List what you have survived, not just what you have achieved. Some of your biggest wins will never fit on a résumé.
Remember that timing is not a talent. Arriving early doesn’t make someone better. Arriving late doesn’t make you less.
A gentle reminder
You are not behind. You are not too late. You are not failing because your milestones look different.
You are simply living your life at the speed it needs to be lived.
And that is beautiful.
